Study Buddies

Millersville SPSEA works with their special interest group Study Buddies to provide a tutoring opportunity to local students. Study Buddies has 87 tutors who meet for one hour every Monday and Tuesday with their buddy to help them with any homework or other school related needs. These tutors meet one-on-one with a student. Study Buddies has been around for over 7 years.

School Supply Collection

This year Millersville SPSEA has collected school supplies throughout the fall semester from the general members. The school supplies that were collected included: notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, and other school supplies for elementary students​. The supplies that were collected were donated to the Shippensburg Area School District during the Southern Regional Conference in the spring. The items that were collected were packed into backpack and then donated.

Book Drive:
Breezy Point Day School

The members of SPSEA collected books to donate to Breezy Point Day school to enhance their library. Numerous memebrs donated gently used or new books. Overall, about 40 books were collected.

Big Little Program

The upperclassmen of SPSEA meet with underclassmen to assist them in choosing their classes for the next semester. The members provide suggestions on professors, course times, order of course, and they answer any other questions that the underclassmen may have.

PIHEC Symposium

Members​ of SPSEA volunteered at the Pennsylvania Inclusive Higher Education Consortium (PIHEC) Symposium hosted by Millersville University. PIHEC is dedicated to the Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities. Millersville University had the honor of hosting this years symposium, and the members of SPSEA aided in registration and room coordination for the symposium. This symposium celebrated the best practice of "full inclusion" and had a theme of We All Belong.

Box Top and Soda Tab Collection
Members of the MU SPSEA have collected Box Tops and soda tabs during the school year. These Box Tops are then donated to a local elementary school of the clubs choosing at the end of the year.​ The soda tabs are donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Upcoming Events
Study Buddies Fun Night
During the spring semester the members of SPSEA wanted to give the elementary students who come to get school help from Study Buddies a chance to have a night of fun. This night was designed to give the elementary students a chance to interact with their Study Buddy in a recreational capacity.
