Teacher Panel

We hosted a teacher panel in the fall semester. The panel consisted of teachers, student teachers, professors, and a principal. One of our executive board members asked the panel questions that were submitted by our general members before the panel. At the end the attendees were able to ask any other questions they had. ​

MU SPSEA held a voter registration drive this year to encourage students to vote in local and presidential elections. During the voter registration executive board members for MU SPSEA walked students through how to register to vote.

Regional Conference at Shippensburg Univesity

​Members of the Millersville University Chapter of SPSEA traveled to Shippensburg University in February to attend the regional conference. The members who went to the conference got to attend breakout sessions in educational areas they have an interest in. Additionally, Dr. Chris Clayton presented as the keynote speaker for the conference. During his speech, he spoke on effective classroom management based research.

Study Buddies

Millersville SPSEA works with their special interest group Study Buddies to provide a tutoring opportunity to local students. Study Buddies has 87 tutors who meet for one hour every Monday and Tuesday with their buddy to help them with any homework or other school related needs. These tutors meet one-on-one with a student. Study Buddies has been around for over 7 years.

My Classroom Economy
A Vanguard representative, Andy Chapman, came to our to campus to provide our members information about an interesting new classroom management program that is offered to teachers free of charge. The program is called My Classroom Economy. This program teaches students Pre-K through 12th grade financial literacy skills and offers a helpful way to manage a classroom. We partnered with another education organization on campus for this event. The other organization is called Early Childhood Organization (ECHO).

Mock Interviews

The organization is hosting mock interviews. The interviews will be between members of the club so that it is a low stress environment. The mock interview questions have been provided by professors who have been administrators in the past. ​

Mini Classroom Management Conference

MU SPSEA is hosting a mini conference about classroom management. Shippensburg University is also invited to this mini conference. Attendees will be able to learn about different classroom management techniques and tips for general and special education classrooms. At the conclusion of the conference there will be a craft session to make calming jars.

State Conference in Pittsburgh
Ten members of the MU SPSEA will be going to Pittsburgh to attend the State SPSEA conference. At the conference members will attend breakout sessions and participate in Outreach to Teach opportunities. ​

PIHEC Conference Co-Sponsor

Members​ of SPSEA volunteered at the Pennsylvania Inclusive Higher Education Consortium (PIHEC) Symposium hosted by Millersville University. PIHEC is dedicated to the Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities. Millersville University had the honor of hosting this years symposium, and the members of SPSEA aided in registration and room coordination for the symposium. This symposium celebrated the best practice of "full inclusion" and has a theme of We All Belong. Members of our porganization have the opportunity to attend the conference to gain professional development.
